ESP32 GPIO Wiring Review Checklist
A short pre-wiring checklist reviewing GPIO purpose, voltage assumptions, and input/output state before connecting a prototype.
Use this as a review aid
Use this checklist as a brief review aid before making prototype connections. It is not a substitute for the documentation for your ESP32 board or the components you are using.
- Confirm the GPIO pin's intended purpose in the prototype.
- Check the voltage assumptions for every connected signal.
- Review the planned input or output state before powering the circuit.
Short review sequence
Start with the board pin reference, then compare each signal with the connected component's documentation. Finally, confirm the expected state of each input and output before connecting the prototype.
- Identify the GPIO and its purpose.
- Verify voltage assumptions.
- Confirm input and output state.
Filled example: documentation review only
Example board: base Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3 (SKU 113991114). This row demonstrates a pin-map lookup, not an electrically verified circuit. Unknown electrical details remain a stop condition.
| Board / signal | Board label / GPIO | Planned function | Voltage / pull-ups | Startup / device | Decision |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XIAO ESP32-S3 / I2C data | D4 / GPIO5 | SDA | Not verified; check board and device limits | Device not selected; startup state not verified | Do not wire yet |
Copy and fill for your own board
Copy this worksheet once per signal. Verify the exact model and revision, board label-to-GPIO mapping, peripheral function and conflicts, direction, voltage limits, pull-up supply, external device, startup state and source. Do not copy the example mapping to another ESP32 board.
